The Flames and Flyers met for the final time on the season with the visitors welcoming back Milan Lucic to their line up but they were still without the injured Johan Porsberger. The Flames started Taz Burman for the first time since he played on Valentine’s Day in Kirkcaldy in net ahead of Justin Fazio and they were without Nick Seitz, Jake Coughler and Tyler Busch who was serving his final game of suspension.
The Flyers had the first couple of shots of the game in the opening minute as Ian Scheid after 17 seconds saw Burman get the blocker to his effort from the blueline and then Andrew McLean received the same treatment. The Flames almost opened the scoring after 90 seconds as Matthieu Gosselin got in behind the defence and his shot was blocked by Owen and the rebound hit the skate of Garet Hunt and headed in behind the Fife goalie but Ryan Nicholson was alert to scoop the puck out of the crease. In the 4th minute a rising shot by Matt Alvaro was shrugged off by Owen then Jack Jacome burst through in behind the Flyers blueliners but lost the handle on the puck as he went in on Owen. The Flames went on the first powerplay as Josh Winquist was called for a slash behind the play in the 5th minute. Charlie Curti had a shot that Owen turned away with a pad and then Cole Ully with a quick shot off a face off win was denied by Owen as the visitors completed the kill. Soon after Sam Talbot almost opened the scoring as his shot heading for the top corner beat the blocker of Owen but hit the inside of the post and bounced clear. The Flyers took advantage of that reprieve as they went down the ice and Winquist from the corner found Logan Neilson cruising into the slot and he sniped the puck high glove side on Burman at 06:40. In the 8th minute the Flames goalie blockered away another long range effort from Scheid and a minute later Josh Waller weaved his way past four Flyers players but Owen was able to get his shoulder on the shot to keep out the rising puck. Ethan Somoza found Keaton Jameson down low in the 12th minute but Burman was alert to hold his post. The Flyers went the other way and after a dump in by Ben Brown Somoza recovered the puck and his shot beat Burman high on the glove side with the clear sound of metal as the puck bounced down and was then cleared. Play went on for almost 20 seconds before the Flames were called for a penalty on Jamal Watson dragged Hunt to the ice. The play was reviewed to determine if the puck entered the net having been called no goal on the ice and after a lengthy review the goal was awarded. The time was not added back on the clock and the penalty was also allowed to stand with both timed at 12:26 as the Flyers went on the powerplay. Neilson was first to threaten on the man advantage with a shot from the high slot that grazed the pipework and Burman then denied him when he was out at the top of his crease to hang on to a wrister. As the Flames completed the kill. Burman came up with a big pad save in the 16th minute to deny Jameson and the Flames keeper was again in action in the 18th minute as he stopped Jeremy Masella with a pad save. In the final seconds of the period Hunt was called for a trip on Ully to put the Flames back on the powerplay as the clock ran down.

The Flyers made solid start to the second period as they completed the penalty kill without the Flames getting a shot on goal. Almost immediately however Masella had to make a great defensive play to tie up the stick of Gosselin on the edge of the crease as Owen gloved the puck. In the 24th minute Owen covered up the puck on a Flames breakout but at the end of the play Mason Alderson was called for a cross check to send the home side back to the powerplay. The Flames struck at 24:14 as Gosselin won a battle in the slot to shovel the puck into the net. In the 25th minute Watson fired a shot off the shoulder of Owen from the circles. Burman lost sight of the puck in the 27th minute as a one timer from Scheid from the blueline was deflected just wide of the Flames goal. Moments later the Flames were back on the powerplay as Simon Despres got his stick into the skates of Gosselin for a tripping call. From the face off Hunt had his stick break and Gosselin tried to beat Owen short side but the Fife goalie sealed his post before he then denied Gosselin again this time with a sprawling save. The Flyers passed up a glorious short handed chance as Justin Ducharme sprang Winquist who was in on Burman all alone from the red line but he fired wildly over the crossbar as the Flyers complete the kill. Just as Despres returned to the ice Josh Nixon went to the Flyers net but couldn’t get enough on the backhand to beat Owen. In the 30th minute Ully from a tight angle forced a kick save from the visiting goalie and a minute later a Jonathan Racine one timer from distance was picked up late by Owen but he kept it out of his net. The Flyers regained their two goal advantage at 32:11 when Neilson found Winquist who batted the puck down for Jameson to slam it home on the stick side of Burman from the slot. In the 34th minute Owen blockered a shot by Watson out of play but the Flames cut the deficit as Gosselin gained the Flyers zone and out muscled Ducharme to head to the net and roof the puck over Owen’s blocker at 37:34.

Inside the opening 20 seconds of the third period the Flyers passed up another glorious opportunity as Scheid and Winquist fashioned a chance but with Burman down and out Neilson couldn’t connect properly with a bobbling puck. In the 44th minute a tic tac toe play between Neilson and Winquist set up Jameson but he was shutdown by Burman who slid across his net. Moments later Owen then made a huge left pad save to stop Alvaro. In the 46th minute a shot from Nixon from distance was spilled by Owen and the puck slithered off the base of the post before being cleared. The Flyers extended their lead once again at 46:39 when Hunt in the neutral zone played in Ducharme going down the left wing and he beat Burman with a shot over the pad and under the glove. Winquist tested Burman’s blocker with a shot off of a face off in the 48th minute but the Flames hit back at 48:14 as Gosselin completed his hat trick when a Travis Brown shot missed the net short side and bounced back out the other side of goal for the Flames forward to beat a scrambling Owen. In the 49th minute Ducharme tipped a puck on net from close range but Burman was sharp. Gosselin won a puck battle in the 52nd minute in the corner and came out front of net but Owen flashed the leather to deny him another. In the 53rd minute Nixon went down the right and drove the net but Owen shut the door with Masella being called for a slash on the play to return the Flames to the powerplay. Watson had an early shot that Owen saved with the pad before the puck was scrambled away. Curti then saw a shot sticked away by Owen as the Flyers completed the kill. In the 55th minute Winquist on a solo effort rang the puck off the cross bar from the slot. With 90 seconds to play the Flyers iced the puck and the Flames called their time out to pull Burman for the extra skater. Owen came up with one last game saver as he did a windmill to glove a shot from Alvaro as the Flyers had a couple of long distance looks at the empty net before the clock wound down.
