The Kingdom Mid-Week Preview – Week 7

WEEK 7 of the 2025/26 Elite Ice Hockey League season and with games coming thick and fast the Flyers are once again early starters with a derby encounter in the Challenge Cup.

WEDNESDAY OCTOBER 22nd FIFE FLYERS v DUNDEE STARS @ FIFE ICE ARENA – FACE OFF 7.30pm

Introducing the opposition – One to Watch!

The Stars head to Kirkcaldy still very much with progression in the Challenge Cup in their own hands as either group winners or finishing second to advance to the play in round. The Stars leading points scorer at this juncture is Matt Berry with 5 goals and 7 assists. The 32-year-old winger, who can also play at center, spent most of last season icing in the Elite League with the Glasgow Clan and after arriving on Clydeside in December, Berry went on to score 22 points (9G, 13A) in 37 appearances. Born in Canton, Michigan, the American has 81 games of AHL experience across 4 seasons as well as 278 games of ECHL experience over 7 seasons and he also played 130 NCAA games during his four-year collegiate career. Matt, who stands at 5-foot and 10-inches tall, has iced for AHL sides; Norfolk Admirals, San Diego Gulls, and Grand Rapids Griffins, whilst also suiting up for Utah Grizzlies, Florida Everblades, Kalamazoo Wings, Toledo Walleye and Cincinnati Cyclones of the ECHL. In the 2023-2024 season, Berry made his first move into European hockey as he joined HK 32 Liptovsky Mikulas in the Slovakian top flight, where he registered 38 points (17G, 21A) in 53 matches. Matt, a Michigan State University Alumni, is also an ECHL Brabham Cup Champion as he was part of the Everblades team that were the regular season champions in 2017-2018, his second season with the Florida club and in his first campaign, he recorded a career high 80-point season. Prior to this season in his 18-year-career so far, Matt has featured in 735 matches, recorded 277 goals, 399 assists and collected 704 penalty minutes, while also playing in 75 playoff games, where he tallied 53 points (24G. 29A) and 95 penalty minutes.

Number Crunching

The Flyers will be looking to make it back to back home wins over the Dundee Stars for the first time since the end of the 2022/23 and start of 2023/24 seasons.

The Flyers have points in all three competitive matches with the Stars this season.

Johan Porsberger with 4 goals is the early scoring leader for the Flyers in the fixture with the Stars who have Brad Schoonbaert and Spencer Naas with a pair of goals each as their leaders.

The Flyers next goal against the Stars will be their 400th including shootouts in all EIHL competitions against their Tayside rivals.
