Fife Flyers are excited to unveil the leadership team for the 2024/25 season.
Canadian defenceman Olivier LeBlanc will wear the ‘C’ on his jersey becoming our 10th appointed Captain in the EIHL era, taking over the role from Jonas Emmerdahl.
On his Captaincy, Olivier said ‘It’s an honour to be named Captain of a franchise with so much history. We have a team that has changed a lot since last year, so I’m very excited that I’ll be able to lead those guys. I think everybody in this room is a leader, everybody cares, and moving forward, that’s the thing that matters the most – that everybody pulls together.
Coach Tom Coolen named his Assistant Captains as Johnny Curran, Michael Cichy, Lucas Chiodo and Drake Pilon.
No stranger to the Elite League, Johnny Curran commented ‘Playing in the league for five or six years now, I’ve got to know the rinks, the players and the styles of teams, so I think that kind of experience can help our locker room with a younger team.’
Last season, Lucas Chiodo was second on team scoring from January 1st to season end – leading the team on assists and powerplay points and was one of three players to play the most games missing just one over the season.
On his role as Assistant Captain, Lucas stated ‘It’s a big honour. I was here last year and I learned a lot from the leaders. I’m going to show the guys the ropes, lead by example on and off the ice and do the best I can to help the team win.’
Michael Cichy was highlighted as a leader by Coach Tom Coolen when his signing was announced by the Club. Michael commented, ‘ It’s a great honour to come to a new team and to be recognised as a leader. I know I’m one of the more experienced guys, So I’ll try to do everything I can to help this team win.’
On his re-signing in the summer, Coach Coolen described Drake Pilon as a player that has a big heart, plays with intensity, gives everything and is not afraid to stick up for his teammates.
On being named an Assistant Captain, Drake stated, ‘I’m happy that I could come back and provide a leadership role. I’m happy that Tom has put his trust in me and that they see me as that kind of player. Our Captain Olivier is a really good guy to follow and I think everyone’s a leader around here right now.’
