Farley Joins Flyers

Fife Flyers Ice Hockey Club are delighted to announce the addition of 30 year old, left shooting forward Austin Farley for the 24/25 season.

American born Austin, having switched from defence to forward, started his junior hockey in the United States Hockey League playing two seasons with the Fargo Force where he iced alongside former Flyer Ian Young. He ended his second season as the top points scorer and then headed to the NCAA committing to the Division 1 University of Minnesota-Duluth programme. In his four years with the Bulldogs, Austin played alongside former Flyers Joe Basaraba and Kyle Osterberg finishing in the top 5 points scorers in 3 of those seasons as well as playing his senior year with the “A” on his jersey.

After finishing college hockey with over 100 points, Austin went on to have a  two games try out in the AHL with the Lake Erie Monsters before signing his first professional contract in the ECHL with the Reading Royals during their playoff run in the 15/16 season, icing with another former Flyer, this time goalie Adam Morrison. Looking to further develop his professional career Austin made the move to the bigger ice of Europe and the Allsvensken League in Sweden during the 16/17 season. In his second season with IF Björklöven, alongside Jonas Emmerdahl, he finished second on team scoring.

A move to the top Swedish league, the SHL, followed in the 18/19 season which saw Austin ice with Luleå . In his second year with Luleå he played in the Champions Hockey League before returning to North America mid-season with the Kalamazoo Wings in the ECHL. During the pandemic season of 20/21 Austin remained in the ECHL and played with the Kansas City Mavericks playing alongside one of this season’s new Flyers, Noah Delmas.

Wanting to return to Europe Austin made the move to Slovakia with Nove Zamky during the 21/22 season playing two full seasons before leaving at the start of his third term to join the Nottingham Panthers last November before switching to Manchester Storm in early 2024 for the remainder of the season.

On making the move to Flyers Austin said ‘Fife fans, I’m extremely grateful for the opportunity to be a part of the Fife organisation for the upcoming season. I can’t wait to get on the ice and play in front of you incredible fans. I’m looking forward to a great season and a push in the playoffs.’

On adding Austin Farley to the roster for the upcoming season Coach Coolen added ‘Austin is a proven offensive player. In Slovakia he was a top 5 scorer in a high level league. He played two seasons in the Swedish Elite League. I coached against him in Slovakia and liked his game and know that given solid ice time he will be a very effective player in Fife.’
