Weekend Recap – Week 11

On Saturday night……

Belfast Giants 3     Fife Flyers 4     Overtime   –  Challenge Cup  

This was the Flyers second ever win in the Challenge Cup on Belfast ice and was only their 5th win on the road against the Giants in 42 games across all EIHL competitions.

This was game 22 for Flyers of the season which means they have now completed exactly one third of their competitive regular season games.

Phélix Martineau had four points in the game which is a team leading season high.

The 3 shots in the third is the lowest for a period for Flyers this season.

17 shots in total for the game is the lowest total for the Flyers this season.

Phélix Martineau’s opening goal after 2:08 is the fastest goal scored by the Flyers this season.

Congratulations to Massimo Carozza who made his Flyers debut, the 18th player to do so for the Flyers this season.

Congratulations also to Janis Voris who got his first Flyers win.

This was the 300th win for Flyers in all EIHL competitions.

Lucas Chiodo got his 2nd overtime winner for the Flyers and joins four other players on that number with only Carlo Finucci having more with four.

Mark Cooper with two  goals becomes the all-time leading scorer for the Giants against the Flyers with 16 goals overtaking Scott Conway.

Phélix Martineau with 30:49 time on ice set a new season high for a forward in a game, he also has the  most TOI for a regulation game.

On Sunday night……

Fife Flyers 1   Sheffield Steelers 4   – Elite League  

The Steelers have now won their last six straight games against the Flyers in all EIHL competitions.

Steelers 31 shots on goal are the fewest given up by Flyers this season.

The Flyers were perfect on the penalty kill, the first time in 5 games which is their streak of the season.

It was the first time in 20 games the Flyers have outshot Sheffield with the last game being March 2022,

Mark Simpson became the third Steelers player to record a hat trick against the Flyers.

The Steelers scored their 6th empty net goal of the season which is the most of all teams across all EIHL competitions.
