Russell’s Round Up

The recent run of results have been tough. As a coach not only do you have to focus on teaching and correcting, you also have to keep the room positive and celebrate the things we are doing well. This includes helping players find their confidence through the tough times. We have a great group and terrific leadership that will find the way to turn it around.

Last weekend our new signing Gio Finoro arrived, jumped straight into the line-up and made a fantastic first impression. He has a great skill package and plays with a fast motor. Gio knows the game and executes the details.

This weekend we have three games in three days. We start with travel to Manchester on Friday which presents some challenges. The rink in Manchester is tiny and unique. Things happen fast there. The boards and glass are very unpredictable so we need to make sure we have numbers back and control the middle corridor of the ice. The last time there we gave up way too many odd man rushes against us.

We then travel home to face Glasgow Clan in our last Challenge Cup game on Saturday with league action against Sheffield on Sunday. Every team in the league has tough spots in their schedule so we need to find a way to win. This week in training we’ve spent a lot of time on D zone coverage and winning our net front. We need to be consistent in this area in games this weekend.
