WEEK 3 of the 2025/26 Elite Ice Hockey League season and it’s a Scottish Derby doubleheader as the Flyers and Dundee Stars meet in back to back games. The Flyers have their first Saturday night home game of the season before making their second trip to Dundee Ice Arena in Challenge Cup action this season.

The Dundee Stars roll into Fife Ice Arena for the first of this weekend’s back to back matches having made a solid start to the campaign. Indeed they top their group by a point over the Belfast Giants against whom they have already notched up two wins. They have played five games which is one more than the Giants but have taken points in all but one of those which was of course the Flyers shutout win 10 days ago at the Dundee Ice Arena. Stars games have produced plenty of goals scored with an aggregate of 41 to average a little more than 8 per game. The Stars 23 goals scored averages out at 4.6 per game and is the best scoring rate of all teams so far this season.

The Flyers will be looking to snap a 4 game losing streak at Fife Ice Arena against the Stars which is the Tayside teams best sequence on the road against the Flyers in all EIHL Competitions.

Heading into the weekend the Stars have three players on 7 points who lead the way in club scoring this season. One of those is Benjamin Almquist. The 25-year-old forward spent the past season with two clubs as he started his campaign off in Norway with Lillehammer and there he was teammates with another new Stars recruit, Jackson Desouza. Appearing in 39 Norwegian topflight games, Almquist scored 10 goals and assisted 25 times before transferring to Cardiff Devils in February, where he would go on to feature 13 times for Pete Russell’s side, contributing four points. Born in Victoria, Minnesota, the American has also played five years of NCAA hockey as he began his collegiate career within his home state at the University of Minnesota-Duluth and after three seasons with the Bulldogs, he switched to play his final two years with the University of Alaska-Anchorage Seawolves. Between 2019 and 2024, Almquist played in over 100 NCAA matches, accumulating 57 points (23G, 34A) and he also won a NCHC Conference title in his final year with the Bulldogs. Ben, who stands at 6-foot tall, also played a few seasons in the United States Hockey League and North American Hockey League after rising through the Minnesota High School League with Holy Family Catholic School – a team he would captain in his senior year and he finished his high school career with 157 points from 114 appearances across five seasons.
