The Fife Flyers Ice Hockey Club are delighted to announce the signing of defenceman Ian Scheid for the 2025/26 season.
Following a successful collegiate hockey career with Minnesota State University, Ian turned pro during the 2020/21 season with the American Hockey League (AHL) side Colorado Eagles.
Ian iced in 28 AHL games for Colorado Eagles throughout the shortened season. He finished as the highest scoring defenceman, 5th overall, with a total of 13 points (5 goals + 8 assists). Ian also iced in 11 games for the affiliated Utah Grizzlies of the ECHL through the 2020/21 season.
For the 2021/22 season, Ian headed to Germany icing in the Deutsche Eishockey Liga (DEL) with Straubing Tigers. In total, he played 114 games in the DEL registeing 41 points (15 goals + 26 assists) split across 3 seasons. The first 2 of those with the Tigers.
During his time with the Tigers, Ian also featured in 8 Championship Hockey League (CHL) games where he notched up 5 assists.
A spell in the Slovakian Extraliga with HC Slovak Bratislava started the 2023/24 season. Before Ian returned to Germany and the DEL with Nürnberg Ice Tigers.
Last season saw Ian ice in Austria’s top tier, ICE Hockey League (ICEHL), with the Black Wings Linz. In 61 games across all competitions in the ICEHL he registered 28 points (3 goals + 25 assists).
On signing Ian, Head Coach Jamie Russell said: “Ian is a defenceman with terrific offensive instincts.
“He’s a competitor that loves to win.
“He is going to be a an awesome PP quarterback in the EIHL.”
In addition, Flyers President and GM Max Birbraer said: “Most of the summer we were looking for an experienced offensive defenceman and we are fortunate enough to secure Ian.“Ian’s pedigree speaks for itself and I am looking forward to watching him leading our defensive core.”
On signing in Fife Ian said: “My family and I are really excited to get to Fife and meet the team and fans and learn all about the Scottish heritage.”
