Weekend Preview – Week 29

WEEK 29 of the 2024/25 Elite Ice Hockey League season and the Flyers start of with a home game against the Guildford Flames before heading south on Sunday to take on the Coventry Blaze

The Flyers and Flames last met earlier this month and the Flames wrapped up their home doubleheader that weekend with a narrow 2-3 loss against the Belfast Giants who broke their 5 game winless streak. Last weekend the Flames visited the Sheffield Steelers and held the lead with the opening goal before they were pegged back with alate home goal before the Steelers took the win with only 9 seconds remaining in overtime. The Flames winless run was extended to three games when they then hosted the Dundee Stars last Sunday with the Tayside team fighting for their post season life. The game was all square going into the last 20 minutes before the visitors took the lead and eventually ran out 4-2 winners. The Flames visit to Fife is the first of three straight games on the road as they visit the Belfast Giants the following night and then have another trip back to Scotland in midweek to face the Glasgow Clan.

The Flames will be looking to complete a clean sweep against the Flyers this season having won their previous five matches and outscoring Fife 26-7 in the process.

The Flyers also met the Blaze earlier this month and like the Flames this was the last win for the Midlands side who also have a three game losing streak coming into the weekend. Following their visit to Fife the Blaze remained on the road with a trip to Manchester and a narrow odd goal in seven defeat to the Storm who turned the game on its head with three unanswered goals in the final period. The next night in Glasgow io twa another one goal loss and this time it was the Blaze with a strong final period but after being down 5-1 they fell short as they lost 5-4. To complete three games in three nights the Blaze hosted the Manchester Storm last Sunday and after holding a 2-1 lead at the end of the first period the Storm scored three unanswered goals the rest of the way to take the points. Ahead of hosting the Flyers the Blaze are just up the road on Saturday night as they visit the Dundee Ice Arena.
