Weekend Recap – Week 3

On Saturday night……

Fife Flyers 6 Dundee Stars 3 – Challenge Cup

The Flyers extended their winning streak against the Stars to four games which stretches back to last Boxing Day. It’s also their 4th consecutive home win against their Tayside rivals.

Congratulations to Collin Shirley for scoring his first competitive Flyers goal.

The Flyers eventually broke their Saturday night scoring duck having been blanked the previous two Saturday nights, fans had to wait until the 8th period of play since the start of the season.

Flyers have yet to score a first period goal at home this season but they have yet to concede a third period goal at home.

Flyers are a perfect 11 for 11 on the penalty kill on home ice.

The Flyers came back from 3-0 down to score six consecutive goals, the best since they got the same number last season against the Clan at home in the Challenge Cup when they took a 6-0 lead, eventually winning 7-2. Eight consecutive goals in a game is the Flyers best in the EIHL when they blanked Manchester 8-0.

It was the first time the Flyers have overturned a 3 goal deficit to win a game since 26th November 2017 when they won 5-4 in OT against the Panthers in Nottingham having been 3-0 and 4-1 behind.

The biggest Flyers comebacks in the EIHL is a four goal deficit – in Cardiff on 18th November 2017 when they were 5-1 down in the 29th minute and came all the way back to win 8-6 and at home against Braehead on 15th February 2014 when they were 4-0 in arrears after 23 minutes and scored six straight to win 6-4.

On Sunday night ……

Dundee Stars 2 Fife Flyers 4 – Challenge Cup

The Flyers made it five consecutive wins over the Stars and in each of those games they have scored four or more goals.

The result puts the Flyers one win behind the Stars in their 108 EIHL meetings all-time.

The win gave the Flyers their first four point weekend of the season, they recorded two last season, the last being on the weekend of 21/22 January 2023.

February 2022 was the last time the Flyers put together three consecutive wins.

The Flyers had ten powerplays in the game last night – a season high game total for them this season.

The 19 shots the Flyers had in the first period is a season high for them in a single period this season.

Troy Lajeunesse has a 3 game goals streak active, a team best this season.

Subject to EIHL verification, three players have a team best three game points streak active, Troy Lajeunnese, Johan Eriksson, Collin Shirley.

Stars powerplay goal was their first with the man advantage this season, the only team not to have scored a powerplay goal.
