The Fife Flyers Ice Hockey Club are delighted to announce the signing of 17 year old Brodie Kay. The 6ft 2inch defenseman joins the club on a two-way contract with Kirkcaldy Kestrels.
A right-handed shooter and strong skater, Kay began his junior career in Fife at the age of 6 before heading across the Forth to Edinburgh followed by the Lanarkshire Lightning. At the age of 15 Kay made the switch back to the Fife junior system joining Flames and Falcons for the 21/22 season where he demonstrated his eye for goal, netting 28 goals in 26 appearances.
Last season, Kay’s first season with the SNL Kestrels side, saw him sign a 2 way contract with the Blackburn Hawks in the NIHL 1. Throughout the course of the season, Kay iced in 44 games in total; 24 games with 18 points in the SNL and 20 games with 2 points in the NIHL. He also headed to Serbia as part of team GB, picking up a point on the way to a top 3 finish in the under 18 World Championship Division 2a.
On his signing with Fife Flyers, Brodie commented, “I am delighted to be given this opportunity at the Fife Flyers. I can’t wait to get started and look forward to learning and gaining experience from the coaches and players. I hope I can contribute in the success of the team. I am extremely grateful to everyone who has helped me in my journey so far.”
A Flyers spokesperson added, “Brodie is a young prospect with a promising future ahead of him. We are delighted he is committed to taking the next steps in furthering his career and feel training at this level is a fantastic opportunity to push Brodie on.”
