Flyers welcome Ben Hawerchuk

The Fife Flyers are pleased to confirm the signing of Canadian forward Ben Hawerchuk for the 2023/2024 season.

Ben is a 5ft 11-inch left-shooting winger. He split last season between Merano in the Alps Hockey League and the Jacksonville Icemen of the ECHL.

Ben has also laced up alongside current Fife Flyer Jonas Emmerdahl during the 20/21 season with Östersunds IK in Sweden and is no stranger to Flyers newcomer Lucas Chiodo. Most notably icing alongside Lucas at Barrie Colts of the OHL where both served together as Alternate Captains.

And if the name Hawerchuk sounds familiar, Ben is the son of NHL Hall of Famer Dale Hawerchuk, who played 1188 games, amassing 1409 points.

Ben commented on his move to Scotland, “I’m excited to be joining the team this year. I’m really looking forward to learning the culture in Scotland and hopefully going on a successful journey with the team. I’m a hard forechecking forward with a heavy shot and have a good mind for the game.”

Head Coach Tom Coolen added, “Ben Hawerchuk is the type of player who can fill many roles for our Club. He can kill penalties and play on the power play. First and foremost, he is a competitor and the type of player that every team needs.”
