Flyers in the Community

Fife Flyers head coach Todd Dutiaume took the time to visit Valley Primary School in Kirkcaldy on Tuesday (27th May) afternoon. The visit was part of a series of media themed visits to the same class by Flyers media & community officer Ross Cunningham.

Pupils have been learning about the media, interviewing techniques and have even filmed and presented their own pretend news reports over the last few weeks. Todd's visit was a chance for the children to use their new found skills to interview a real-life sports coach.

Ross Cunningham said "Children are growing up in a world where online and broadcast media are massive parts of their lives. So it's been really fun to teach them about the media and to get them learning new skills like interviewing and using filming equipment that I use everyday as part of my role at the club.

"Todd's appearance today was really special for the kids and they were able to ask him a number of questions they had been preparing in class. We also staged a mock press conference which was a lot of fun and gave the kids an insight into the life of a sports reporter."

Fife Flyers' community programme is now in it's final two weeks before ending for the summer. The next two weeks will be dedicated to visiting the three Cowdenbeath primary schools (Cowdenbeath, Foulford and St. Bride's) which will get the chance to play some indoor hockey as well as taking part in a special healthy eating workshop put on for the classes.
