Fife Flyers game preview

This  Saturday sees the Fife Flyers, sponsored by Arnold Clark Mercedes-Benz, welcome Danny Stewart's Coventry Blaze side to Fife Ice Arena for the first time in the 2019/20 Elite Ice Hockey League season, also making his first return after his summer switch to the Blaze will be forward Evan Bloodoff.

The Blaze will be looking to avenge their 4-1 home loss that Flyers inflicted on them last Saturday in the Coventry Sky Dome.

Last weekend Flyers secured their first 4 point weekend of the season with the 4-1 away win over Coventry Blaze and a 4-2 home win over the Nottingham Panthers.

Speaking ahead of this weekend's games head coach Todd Dutiaume said "The mood in the camp has been great this week after a successful weekend. We were more happy with how we performed on Sunday, that is the kind of team we want to be."

Flyers take on Coventry for the 2nd time in a week and Dutiaume is looking forward to the game.

"Playing teams in quick succession like we are with Coventry gives you bit of an idea what a team are like systematically and what their strengths and weaknesses are.

"It can have its advantages and disadvantages, but at the end of the day we all have to play each other a certain amount of times and it is about showing up in a season series.

"We got the early lead against Coventry but I am sure they will have something to say about that on Saturday and we are going to have to be strong, more creative and bring the same work level we did against Nottingham last Sunday.

"We played decent against Coventry, especially in the opening 10 minutes. We felt we were in control for big parts of that game, but in other parts we relied heavily on our netminder, Adam Morrison."

On Sunday, Flyers will make the 8.5 hour journey south to take on Paul Dixon's Guildford Flames at the Spectrum.

"Nobody enjoys being on those big bus journeys that we will face on Sunday to take on Guildford, but it’s just the reality of this league that stretches the length of the country.

"The guys have to be mentality prepared to be on the bus for the majority of the day, but we will get out and have the opportunity to stretch out their legs.

"Once we get to the rink the guys will get into their pre-game routines and they will have to shake off the bus legs because Guildford are a very dangerous team.

"Guildford have added more key pieces this year and they seem more deep than they have been in the past. Any time you take points out of Guildford, it is a cause for celebration and we are hoping we can do that on Sunday.

Grab your McDonald's chuck-a-puck from sellers on game night to be in with a chance of winning £250, or McDonald's vouchers on Saturday.
