American born Austin having switched from defence to forward started his junior hockey in the United States Hockey League playing two seasons with the Fargo Force where he iced alongside future Flyer Ian Young. He ended his second season as the top points scorer and then took the NCAA route committing to the Division 1 University of Minnesota-Duluth programme. In his four years with the Bulldogs he played with future Flyers Joe Basaraba and Kyle Osterberg and played his senior year with the “A” on his jersey. Finishing college hockey with over 100 points he had two games on a try out in the AHL with the Lake Erie Monsters before signing his first professional contract in the ECHL with the Reading Royals in their playoff run, playing with a future Flyers goalie Adam Morrison, to finish the 2015/16 season. Looking to further develop his professional career he made the move to the bigger ice of Europe and the Allsvensken League in Sweden. In his second season with IF Björklöven, alongside Jonas Emmerdahl, he finished second on team scoring and that enabled him to jump to the top Swedish league with Luleå in the SHL. In his second year with Luleå he played in the Champions Hockey League before mid-season returning to North America with the Kalamazoo Wings in the ECHL. During the pandemic season of 2020/21 he remained in the ECHL and played with the Kansas City Mavericks playing alongside one of this season’s new Flyers, Noah Delmas. Wanting to return to Europe he then made the move in 2021/22 to Slovakia with Nove Zamky playing two full seasons before leaving them at the start of his third term to join the Nottingham Panthers last November. His time with the Panthers lasted two months before he joined the Manchester Storm for the remainder of last season.
