The Kingdom Weekend Recap – Week 6

On Saturday night……

Belfast Giants 3               Fife Flyers 1                  –  Elite League    

The Giants extended their home winning streak in league play against the Flyers to five games.

The Flyers broke their goal drought at 128 minutes and 41 seconds which is 5th longest in their EIHL era.

Congratulation to Jeremy Masella who scored his first goal for the Flyers.

Belfast’s 19 shots on Flyers goal in the opening period was the highest total allowed by Flyers in a period this season beating the previous high of 18 which was against Giants and Stars.

Giants 48 shots against equals the highest total given up in a game this season by the Flyers with the other game being against the Dundee Stars.

The Flyers were on the penalty kill 5 times which also equals a season high in a game this term.

Josh Winquist played 25.59 which broke his own team leading time on ice in a game for a Flyers forward this season.

There were 46 face offs in the game which is the lowest in a Flyers game this season and only the 4th game that the Flyers have had a winning margin at the dot this term.

Mike Lee extended his team leading points streak to 7 games.

It was the Giants 6th consecutive game without giving up a powerplay goal.

 

On Sunday night……

Fife Flyers 2                                Belfast Giants 5            –   Elite League    

The Giants have now won on their last four visits to the Kingdom in league play.

The Flyers scored their first powerplay goal against the Giants this season and had previously been 0 for 10 in the meetings so far this term. The Giants had been perfect on the PK in their previous 6 games this season.

Scott Conway made it three consecutive games with a goal which is a season high for the Giants and Mike Lee extended his team leading point streak to 8 games.

It was the 100th meeting in all competitions between the sides with the Flyers record reading W 17 D 1 L92 F 213 A 444

It was also the 700th regular season Elite League game for the Flyers with their overall record being W 261 L 381 OTL/SOL 58 F 2010 A 2609.

The Flyers home record during that time is P 351 W 160 L 150 OTL/SOL 41  F 1117 A 1140 and their record on the road is P 349 W 101 L 231 OTL/SOL 17  F 893 A 1469

The Flyers winning percentages over the 700 regular season games (in order of best first) against each team is as follows:

Congratulations on his first competitive goal for the Flyers goes to Didrik Svendsen.

Congratulations also to Joe Lynch who recorded his first point for the Flyers and first in the EIHL.

Spooky coincidence that the opening goals on both nights this weekend were scored at 06:27.
