Another Loyal Servant Returns to the Kingdom

Fife Flyers Ice Hockey Club are delighted to announce the return of Swedish Defenceman Jonas Emmerdahl.

No stranger to the Flyers faithful, Jonas first arrived in the Kingdom at the beginning of the 2019/20 season. He again returned in the 2021/22 season after icing for Östersunds IK in his native Sweden during the 2020/21 Elite Ice Hockey League (EIHL) season hiatus.

Described as having ‘wonderful leadership qualities’, Jonas was named Assistant Captain on his return to the Kingdom before being promoted to Captain for the following 2 seasons.

Leading the team to the Challenge Cup final during the first of these in 2022/23.

Last year saw Jonas begin his season in Germany icing with Germany3 side EV Lindau before answering the call to return to the Flyers blue line in February 2025.

Described as a ‘two-way defenseman with good hockey sense’ Jonas has 65 points (19 goals and 48 assists) across 248 games in the EIHL.

On his return Jonas said: “I’m really happy to have signed a contract for the upcoming season.

“I’ve been here for a while now so can almost call Fife my second home. I have seen the huge potential that this club has.

“It’s exciting times ahead and I want to be a part of it. See you soon.”

On securing the signature of Jonas, Max Birbraer, Flyers President and GM added: “I am extremely happy that Jonas decided to comeback and be a part of our line up.

“The first thing that comes to mind when you watch Jonas play and speak to him is his professionalism.

“He leads by example on and off the ice. His mature hockey sense, being hard to play against and making the right plays under pressure will anchor our defensive core.”

Coach Russell added: “I’m looking forward to working with Jonas. He brings size, compete and experience to our D core.”

2025/26 marks Jonas’ 6th season in the Kingdom. As the fourth player to sign up for the new season, Jonas joins Shane Owen, Mason Alderson and Ben Brown. Jonas will again wear #44.
