Introducing the opposition & One to Watch!

There is little doubt that Spencer Naas has been a consistent point getter for the Stars in what is now this third stint. Spencer career began back in 2010 at Blake School, playing in the United States High School league of Minnesota, where in his first two seasons, he racked up 45 goals and 37 assists in 50 regular season matches, before adding 10 more in five playoff games. His next two seasons in the high school leagues would be spent with Benilde-St. Margaret’s School, where he would become the captain in his senior year and record 125 points across 55 games, putting his total points per game at 2.01 across the four seasons in the high school league. Naas was also nominated for the Mr. Hockey Award in 2014 and finished tied for 43rd in Minnesota high school history with 217 career points, as well as being 17th all-time with 118 career goals. The American then committed to join the UConn Huskies in the NCAA and would record 77 points in 143 matches, whilst also joining the leadership team in his final two seasons, as an alternate captain. During his four years at UConn, Naas also became tied for the second most goals by a rookie in Huskies history and would lead the team in goals during his senior year, which earned him a 2018 Hockey East Honourable Mention Award. At the end of the 2017-2018 campaign, he then signed an amateur try-out contract in the AHL with Cleveland Monsters and would score an impressive seven points (4G, 3A) in only 12 fixtures. In the 2018-2019 season, Spencer then signed an AHL contract with Texas Stars, the farm team to the NHL’s Dallas Stars, and would play 10 games with them before being assigned to their ECHL affiliate, Idaho Steelheads and he would go on to record 27 points in 55 games of his rookie season. Naas would sign on with Idaho again the following year and after totaling 16 points through 46 games, fellow ECHL outfit, Kalamazoo Wings would trade for him and he would play the final seven matches of the season in Michigan. During the COVID-19 impacted season of 2020-2021, the American found himself plying his trade over in Sweden’s third tier, HockeyEttan with Tranas, where he would ice in 25 matches, tallying six points. Spencer would then continue his career in Europe by joining Amiens in France, where he also got a taste of Continental Cup action, scoring 32 points in league play, six more in six playoff ties, four points in two French Cup contests and five in three Continental Cup games. Then the forward joined the newly formed Savannah Ghost Pirates and would be an alternate captain for the Georgia-based club, whilst accumulating 27 points across 65 appearances. His first season with the Stars 2023/24 he led the entire Elite League in goals with 32 in the regular season and totalled 59 points, as well as scoring twice in the Challenge Cup and adding three more points in the playoffs. He was also named to the EIHL’s Second All-Star Team. He then started last season in DEL2 with Freiburg before returning to the Stars and joined up again in the summer and is a point per game player over his 150 plus games.

SUNDAY APRIL 5th DUNDEE STARS v FIFE FLYERS @ DUNDEE ICE ARENA – FACE OFF 5.00pm

Introducing the opposition & One to Watch!

There is perhaps little to debate about who has been the Stars best servant during their years in the Elite Ice Hockey League. Canadian defenseman, Drydn Dow signed a two-year contract extension that is due to expire at the end of 2025-2026 Elite League season and perhaps an eighth season or more is still on the cards. 33-year-old Dow, who has now captained the club for the last five seasons far is closing in on 450 games for the club after joining from the University of Calgary, back in the summer of 2018. During that time Drydn has only broken service to the club once as the covid-hindered season of 2020-2021 allowed him to find more success with Slovakian side, Spisska Nova Ves as he became a Slovakian Playoff Champion. The native of Calgary, Alberta was named to the EIHL Second All-Star Team in season 2023/24  for the second time after being selected in 2019-2020. He was the highest scoring defenseman in the regular season in 2023/24 scoring 14 goals – 4 more than the next blueliner as he was in 2019-2020 when he also scored 14 goals. Prior to arriving on Tayside and making bis professional debut the Calgary, Alberta native iced for the University of Calgary in the USports. During his five years with the Dinos, Dow made 145 appearances and scored 87 points and in his final year, he featured in 34 games, scoring seven goals and assisting 13 times. The five-foot-nine-inch blueliner began his career back in 2008 in the Alberta youth leagues before he joined the Western Hockey League (WHL) and began icing for the Tri-City Americans. Four seasons later, Dow then chose to join the University of Calgary in 2013 and he would spend the next five years competing in the Canadian college leagues before signing with the Stars in the summer of 2018. In his rookie year, he scored 38 points (9+29) in 58 games and impressed Stars Head Coach, Omar Pacha, as well as many others around the league, enough to earn a new contract where he then played on 48 occasions for the Stars and scored 41 points (14 + 27), while racking up 24 penalty minutes. Coming into the weekend he has 13 goals against the Flyers in all EIHL competitions which is joint second most with Spencer Naas.
