The Kingdom Weekend Preview – Week 23

WEEK 23 of the 2025/26 Elite Ice Hockey League season and the Flyers have a weekend of hockey in Scotland for the first time since before Christmas when they entertain the Guildford Flames for the final time in the regular season and then head over the Tay for a basement battle clash with the Dundee Stars.

SATURDAY FEBRUARY 14th  FIFE FLYERS v GUILDFORD FLAMES @ FIFE ICE ARENA – FACE OFF 7.00pm

Introducing the opposition & One to Watch!

The Flames have a long and relatively successful track record in the Elite Ice Hockey League of plucking players out of the Canadian University or College hockey systems and we feature a couple of players that were added to their roster this season. Canadian defenceman Sean Comrie who is a  6’0”, 175lb skater spent the last 4 seasons at USports MacEwan University Griffins, closing his final term with 8 goals and 6 assists in 27 starts to take his career numbers to 18 goals and 40 points in 91 games. In 2016-2017, the 25 year old iced at AJHL Spruce Grove Saints where he debuted with 18 points in 48 appearances and was selected to Canada Team Black for the Under 17 World Hockey Challenge.  He remained at Saints the following term and led all Defencemen on the club with 34 points during their league championship haul.  His Saints success earned him a spot at NCAA collegiate side University of Denver where he played during the 2018-2019 set before returning to Canada for a pair of Major Junior campaigns with Kelowna Rockets in the WHL from 2019-2021; a stint that preceded his return to school athletics in his hometown of Edmonton. Ice time has been limited for Sean as he has often been the “odd man out” in the blueline rotations. The Flames also added Canadian forward Josh Nixon to the roster after four NCAA seasons. The 25 year old closed last season making his pro debut with 4 games at ECHL Maine Mariners immediately following a 23 point term in 36 Union College starts.  He began his collegiate career at Lake Superior State before the Union transfer for his final 3 campaigns. In 143 starts combining athletics and academics, the native of Mississauga, Ontario had 42 goals and 86 points and was selected to the NCAA (CCHA) All-Rookie team during the 2021-2022 season. His junior career began in 2017-2018 with OJHL Georgetown Raiders. He remained there for the season that followed, one that included the league title, then moved on to Oakville Blades the season after that.  In 101 games, the 5’9”, 175lb skater had 27 goals and 40 assists.  He took his skills to the USHL in 2019-2020, scoring 8 goals and 25 points at Sioux City Musketeers before his final development term at NAHL Maryland Black Bears where 23 points in 42 games preceded the step up to the college ranks.

SUNDAY FEBRUARY 15th DUNDEE STARS v FIFE FLYERS @ DUNDEE ICE ARENA – FACE OFF 5.00pm

Introducing the opposition & One to Watch!

We take a quick look at a couple of homegrown players on the Stars roster. Kris Inglis signed a one-year contract extension last summer and the 26-year-old laced up in the autumn for his boyhood club for the ninth straight season and barring a spell on the sidelines through injury has continued to be a strong presence on the back-end, whilst constantly bringing his hard-working and dedicated attitude every day. Last season saw Inglis ice in 68 matches, contributing 11 points and the Dundonian blueliner and earlier this term broke through the 400 games played in the Elite League appearances, with 45 points (2G, 43A) and 252 penalty minutes, across his previous eight seasons. Kris first joined the Stars in 2016, while he continued playing with Scottish National League side, Dundee Comets on a two-way contract and also whilst icing with the Dundee Stars Under 20’s. Inglis first came into the Stars setup during Marc LeFebvre’s first spell in charge and he would go on to feature 37 times under the Canadian in the 2016-2017 campaign. Kris also received International recognition with GB in the recent European Cup of Nations tournament at Murrayfield. Another homegrown stalwart has been Craig Garrigan who extended in the summer for another season to bring his time on Tayside to seven seasons. Last season, Garrigan featured in all 54 Elite League games and 12 Challenge Cup contests providing one goal and five assists, whilst playing a pivotal role in the team’s penalty kill unit. The 27-year-old is now also closing in on 400 Elite League appearances to his name and also featured 13 times for Nottingham Panthers before collecting a winner’s medal in the 2020/2021 Elite Series. Garrigan has been a big part of the core roster in Dundee since he joined his hometown team in the summer of 2018 and every night, he puts his body on the line for the Stars and his relentless effort is always visible on the ice.
