The Kingdom Weekend Recap – Week 12

On Friday night……

Manchester Storm 5               Fife Flyers 6                         Overtime                           –   Elite League   

The Flyers snapped their record setting winless streak at 18 games.

In games beyond regulation the Flyers are now 5 and 2 all-time in EIHL competitions against the Storm.

The Flyers scored two shorthanded goals for the 7th time in all EIHL competitions, the last time being 7th October 2017 against the Clan.

Keaton Jameson became the first player to score two shorthanded goals for the Flyers in a game during the EIHL era and the Flyers now have 9 shorties against the Storm whilst giving up 8

Overall the Flyers have scored 74 and conceded 113 shorthanded goals in all EIHL competitions.

Manchester’s 20 shots on goal are the fewest given up by Flyers in a game this season.

When afforded a man advantage opportunity the Flyers have now gone 7 games without a powerplay goal and are 0 for 14 in that stretch.

Congratulations to Simon Despres on his first points for the Flyers and to Andrew McLean who got his first goal for the Flyers.

Also scoring his first goal was debutant Anton Karlsson who became the 39th player to score in his first competitive game for the club in the EIHL era and 183rd player all-time to achieve this feat.

Karlsson’s goal was also the Flyers 900th on the road in regular season play in the EIHL.

The game featured 73 face offs which is the most for a Flyers game this season.

 

On Sunday night……

Fife Flyers 3         Cardiff Devils 2                                 Overtime                        –   Elite League    

The Flyers avoided a 7th consecutive defeat at home against the Devils which would have been their worst ever run against the Welsh side in all EIHL competitions.

It also snapped the Devils 8 game overall winning streak which is their best against the Flyers in the EIHL era.

In games beyond regulation the Flyers are now 36 and 38 all-time in EIHL competitions and against the Devils are 3 and 3.

20 of those overtime wins have come on the road.

The Flyers opening goal after 53 seconds was the fastest goal scored by the Flyers this season.

It was the first time the Flyers have won an opening period since meeting Dundee Stars on 22nd Oct.

It was the first time the Flyers have won a game this season when losing the third period and they are now 1 and 13 in that respect.

The Flyers for the first time in 8 games were never behind in a match.

It was the first four point weekend for the Flyers since February 2024 and first back to back victories since March 2024.
