Fife Flyers forward Josh Winquist has spoken of the frustration of the team’s current losing run – which is why he’s keen to get one on the board for the fans.
The Flyers are yet to be victorious in the league this season and the winless run was extended last weekend after defeats to the Glasgow Clan and the Cardiff Devils.
And Winquist, who was honest in his summation of the current situation, is keen to repay the supporters who have stuck by the team during this difficult spell.
“Obviously, it’s been difficult to stay positive,” he said. “Call a spade a spade, but it sucks losing every game right now. We’re focussed on lightening the little things and trying to win a hockey game.
“It’s tough to win when you’re playing shorthanded and carrying injuries, but we have to find a way to do it for the fans as well as for the club.
“They’ve been awesome to us and I understand there are some who have negative things to say, but they still come along to show their support every single game.

“When you see they’ve followed us all the way to Cardiff on a Sunday night, it means a lot and we really appreciate that.”
Flyers head to Manchester for a Friday night affair at Planet Ice, Altrincham in their first outing of the weekend before they host Cardiff again – meeting them for the third Sunday (5:00pm face-off) in a row.
And Winquist would be all in favour of a Friday-Sunday schedule in the Elite League if it were to be brought in more regularly
“I’m looking forward to the Friday night-Sunday schedule this week and it’s one I certainly prefer, having experienced that schedule in Germany and other places I’ve played,” he added.
“A lot of the leagues across Europe play Friday and Sunday’s, personally I’m all for it and no matter where you’re going to be on the Sunday, you’re rested and it’s going to be a better game and a better product in my opinion.
“Looking ahead to the weekend though, Manchester is a difficult place to play because of the smaller ice surface. So a rink like that is all about getting pucks deep and no turnovers because all of a sudden, you could be on the defensive and things can change really quickly.”
The Flyers are in action THIS SUNDAY (4:00pm doors, 5:00pm face-off). Tickets are available online HERE or direct from the Fife Ice Arena box office.
