The Kingdom Weekend Preview – Week 11

WEEK 11 of the 2025/26 Elite Ice Hockey League season and the Flyers start it all with a derby on home ice against West Coast rivals Glasgow Clan on Saturday before they make the first long trip of the season to South Wales to meet last weekend’s opponents the Cardiff Devils.

SATURDAY NOVEMBER 22nd FIFE FLYERS v GLASGOW CLAN  @ FIFE ICE ARENA – FACE OFF 7.00pm

Introducing the opposition & One to Watch!

The Clan emerged as runners up in the Challenge Cup group as they put a run of three victories together with two crucially being against the Dundee Stars to earn a play in berth against the Nottingham Panthers next week to determine who will take the final semi-final slot.  Leading the way in points from the blueline for the Clan is summer recruit Jason Fram who has 6 goals and 5 helpers to his name in all competitions so far. Fram arrived in Glasgow with an outstanding pedigree and a wealth of international experience. A decorated player at University level, he is a two-time USports All-Canadian First Team member, two-time USports Defenceman of the Year, a USports University Cup Champion, and was also named to the WHL (West) Second All-Star Team during his junior career. On the world stage, Fram represented Team China at the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympic Games, before spending five seasons in the KHL with Kunlun Red Star – competing in what is widely regarded as the second-best league in the world. Most recently, he played in the ICE Hockey League with Italian side Asiago Hockey 1935. Fram, also known by his Chinese name Jie Liu, was born in Vancouver and played Major Junior hockey for the WHL’s Spokane Chiefs before turning to professional hockey briefly with the San Jose Barracuda in the AHL and Allen Americans of the ECHL but he soon returned to school to further his education by attending the University of Alberta. He went to the Chinese club at age 24 and became a naturalized citizen, which allowed him to play for the Chinese national team. He tallied 186 games in the KHL recording 17+22. Head Coach Corey Neilson said this about him; “Jason is primarily an offensive defenceman but had to turn into more of a two-way guy during his five-year stint in the KHL. After a lengthy conversation with him I was determined to get his contract signed. He makes us a better team in many ways”.

SUNDAY  NOVEMBER 23rd   CARDIFF DEVILS v FIFE FLYERS  @ VINDICO ARENA – FACE OFF 5.00pm

Introducing the opposition & One to Watch!

With the Devils in action against the Flyers last Sunday their win took them into 3rd place in the standings and coming into play this weekend they will be hoping that a victory from their visit to Manchester Storm on Saturday night will see them jump up that table with the top two meeting in Nottingham the same night. It would also set them up with a potential chance to hit the top of the standings when the Flyers visit on Sunday night. One player who had something to remember last Sunday’s game for was Jimmy Oligny who scored his first ever goal for the Devils. The 32 year old Canadian joined the Devils in the summer from the Graz 99ers, where he finished the 2024-25 season after starting the year in Slovakia with HKM Zvolen. Before making the move overseas last season, Oligny spent 10 years in the American Hockey League (AHL), the last six with the Manitoba Moose, the top affiliate of the NHL’s Winnipeg Jets.  He served as captain of the Moose in his final three seasons in the AHL. Ahead of turning pro, Oligny spent 5 seasons in the Quebec Major Junior League (QMJHL).  He was with the Prince Edward Island Rocket his first 4 years then was traded to Rimouski Oceanic for his final year.  That season, he was nominated for the league’s best defensive defenceman and at the end of the year, he signed his first professional contract with the Milwaukee Admirals. He spent 4 seasons with Milwaukee then signed an NHL entry level contract with the Vegas Golden Knights, although he did not make the team and was assigned to their AHL affiliate, the Chicago Wolves. Midway through that season, he was traded by Vegas to the Winnipeg Jets and was assigned to the Manitoba Moose where he spent the next 6 years. In 2023, Oligny won the AHL’s Yanick Dupré Memorial Award as “Man of the Year,” awarded annually for service to his local community, an award chosen by the league’s president. Known for his well-rounded game and his defensive prowess, Oligny brings a ton of experience to the Devils defensive unit.  He regularly played 25+ minutes a game at the AHL level and was relied upon to match up against the other team’s top line. His final year in the AHL was spent recovering from an injury, which kept him out of action for the start of last season, but he was fully recovered and signed a couple months into the 2024-25 season in Slovakia before moving to Austria.  He finished the 2024-25 season strong with Graz, playing 23 league games and then all 7 of their playoff games.
