Match Report – Sunday 28th September 2025

The Flyers were looking to make it back to back wins against the Stars in Dundee and also remain perfect in competitive meetings so far this season against the Stars. The home side had a couple of changes in their line up from the one that played in Kirkcaldy the previous night with Emil Kruse getting the start in net and Adam Almquist scratched. The Flyers were unchanged and still missing both Didrik Svendsen and Justin Ducharme.

Shane Owen had the first save of the game in the 2nd minute as Spencer Naas tested his glove. The bright opening by the Stars saw them go on the power play a minute later as Mason Alderson was assessed a slashing call behind the home net. The Stars had Owen scrambling around his crease and with the Fife goalie flat on the ice the puck slid through the paint and out the other side with a Flyers defenceman also sprawling. Referee Halas adjudged that the puck had been played with a hand in the crease and awarded a penalty shot. Naas tried to beat Owen on the blocker side but the Fife keeper denied him and despite continued pressure by the Stars for the remainder of their man advantage the Flyers completed the kill. A shot from Drydn Dow from the half boards in the 7th minute clipped the top of Owen’s crossbar. The Flyers first real threat to Kruse in the home goal came in the 8th minute as Johan Porsberger and Josh Winquist combined with the latter just shooting high. Moments later at 8:09 the visitors had the lead and this time it was Winquist with the set up play for Porsberger who buried the puck on the glove side of Kruse. Owen made a save in the 10th minute as he went post to post to stop a Dow one timer. The Flyers doubled their advantage at 11:11 with a nicely worked give and go move between Ian Scheid and Winquist that drew Kruse out of position and Porsbergers shot into the gaping net came out from the middle bar with the officials waving play on. At the next stoppage the play was reviewed and the goal correctly awarded. The Stars struck back however at 12:02 as they again swarmed around the Fife net and the puck bounced to Bradley Schoonbaert who managed to stuff it under Owen before falling on the Flyers goalie. This started  a scrum and from it Winquist and Kameron Kielly picked up roughing minors with the Flyers man getting the extra two to send the Stars back in the powerplay. Owen stood tall and made a glove save on Dow and a pad save from Hampus Olsson who was in close before the Stars player took a tripping call in front of the Flyers net. Kruse made a big save on the Stars penalty kill as both teams returned to full strength. In the 18th minute another tic tac toe move in the Stars zone by the Flyers saw Porsberger almost complete the hat trick. In the final few seconds Owen made another solid save on Olsson who once again was in close.

Early start pressure in the second period and Owen was happy to glove a Matt Berry shot to break up play after 90 seconds. In the 22nd minute Winquist broke into the Stars zone but couldn’t beat Kruse with one hand on his stick. The Stars got the game tied at 27 minutes exact when Dow fired the puck through a mass of humanity on front of Owen and it found the top corner of the net after deflecting off of Olsson. Schoonbaert was then denied moments later with a save of the week contender as he had the whole net to hit but Owen got a piece of the puck to keep it out. Jaka Sturm took the puck to the Stars net moments later but Kruse did enough to keep it out. The Stars took the lead at 33:01 when a long stretch pass from the Stars zone sprung Naas who skated in on Owen and beat him five hole. Sturm went close again as Kruse got a pad on a low shot but moments later at 37:01 the Flyers man was net front and he was able to deflect a shot from the point from Jeremy Masella past the Stars goalie to level the contest. 25 seconds later and the Flyers had the lead again as Jameson and Hunt combined to gain the zone and the shot from Hunt hit Kruse on the shoulder and spun into the air but was batted home by Jameson.

Berry had the first chance of the 3rd period as he went forehand backhand on Owen who made a block. Owen was again in action in the 43rd minute as he was square to the shot from Bean. A minute later and Winquist linked up with Somoza but Kruse fought off the latter’s shot. In the 46th minute Morten Jurgens went down main street but Owen again stood tall. The Stars pressure did however pay off at 47:33 as Schoonbaert was left all alone in the slot and he beat Owen with a shot on the glove side. The Flyers went on the power play in the 50th minute as Kris Inglis was binned for delay of game when he shot the puck over the glass. Porsberger set up a chance for Somoza and his shot hit the goalie and skidded wide of the net. The Stars completed the kill after Kruse gloved a shot from Scheid. In the 54th minute Winquist was called for a slash on Kruse. As he was being ushered to the box Inglis and Masella dropped the gloves and no sooner were they both binned for fighting then Garet Hunt and Matthews Boudens were called for roughing before play resumed with the Stars on a power play. The Flyers kill was strong as they returned to full strength. Owen made a shoulder save on Berry with 3 minutes remaining and the final chance of regulation came when Owen was able to shut Jurgens down.

Overtime started with the Flyers in possession of the puck and they almost won the game when Winquist saw his slapshot from the high slot hit metal work. The Flyers continued to dominate possession and Jameson went close but lifted his shot over the bar. The game winner came with 28 seconds remaining after the Flyers turned the puck over in their zone and Berry pounced to drill a shot past own on his stick side.
