The Kingdom Weekend Recap – Week 2

On Saturday night……

Belfast Giants  8           Fife Flyers 0            –  Challenge Cup    

The Giants extended their winning streak against the Flyers to 8 straight games which includes winning at the SSE on the last 4 visits by Fife.

Patrick Grasso’s hat trick was the 13th for a Giants player against the Flyers in all EIHL competitions.

The Giants shutout the Flyers for the 14th time in all EIHL competitions which is most of all teams.

It was the 70th time the Flyers have been blanked in EIHL play.

The last 5 games the Flyers have been shutout have all been on the road.

The Giants 6th goal was the 1700th given up by the Flyers on the road in all EIHL competitions.

The Flyers who had been perfect on the penalty kill this season had that streak ended at 12 kills.

On Sunday night……

Fife Flyers 2          Glasgow Clan 3              –  Challenge Cup    

The Flyers still have not won back to back home games against the Clan since the 2017/18 season.

Congratulations to Mason Alderson on not just his first goal in Flyers colours but his first in the EIHL.

The Flyers were awarded their 19th penalty shot in all EIHL competitions and have now failed to score in their last 4 attempts with 7 total successes.

Troy Lajeunesse was the last Flyers player to score a penalty shot in April 2024 against the Dundee Stars.

Flyers registered 35 shots which is the most against the Clan in their last 12 meetings.

There was season high TOI registered for both a forward and defenceman for the Flyers in this game with Ian Scheid logging 27:07 and Josh Winquist 25:37

Josh Winquist’s shorthanded goal was their 71st in all EIHL competitions and their 6th against the Clan.

Last season the Flyers scored 3 shorthanded goals whilst giving up 10.

The Flyers powerplay drought extended to 5 games and they are now 0 for 14 – their longest without a man advantage marker since going 0 for 15 across 6 games in December 2024.
