The Flyers first competitive game of the 2025/26 season and they lined up against Glasgow with 15 players making their debut. Missing from the line up were Aiden Wilson and Vlastimil Dostálek. The Clan were without Steven Seigo and youngster Kyle Carruth.
The opening 90 seconds both team traded rushes in a quick paced contest. The Clan went on the games first power play in the 3rd minute as Josh Winquist was called for a slash on Chris McKay. The visitors carved out a couple of great short handed chances as firstly Justin Ducharme went in on Sami Aittokallio who made a pad save then the Finnish stopper came up big again as he stopped an Ethan Somoza snipe following a 2 on 1 break. The Flyers completed the kill but moments later Shane Owen came up with a massive save to deny Brett Neumann on the edge of his crease. The Clan were back on the man advantage in the 5th minute as Jeremy Masella was binned for hooking. The Flyers were strong on the penalty kill again and returned to full strength unscathed. Owen flashed the leather in the 9th minute to stop Tristin Langan and the Fife keeper was in sparkling form again in the 12th minute when Mitchell Heard stripped the puck from Ben Brown and bore down on the Fife net but Owen stopped his backhand effort from close range. Moments later however 12:10 the Clan opened the scoring a Neumann’s shot that was going wide of target took a bounce off the skates of Brodie Kay and the puck went in off the post. The home side doubled their lead at 17:37 when Owen couldn’t hold a shot from Brayden Burke and Neumann was on hand to snap home the rebound. In the 18th minute Aittokallio paddled away a shot from Masella as Robert Lochowicz was given the gate for delay of game. The Flyers had some down low pressure to end the period but couldn’t get a clean shot on the Clan goal with their advantage.
The Flyers had 40 seconds of power play to start the second period and Johan Porsberger found space down the right wing but drifted his shot wide as the Clan returned to full strength. In the 22nd minute Neumann resumed his battle with Owen who flicked out his right leg to make the save. Owen was again in action in the 25th minute when he gloved a shot from Burke. Somoza had a look moments later but Aittokallio stood tall before Andrew McLean went close. The down low pressure told as Porsberger behind the net sent the puck out front to Ducharme who managed to squeeze the puck home with the clock at 26:10. The Flyers went on the powerplay again in the 28th minute when Kay was called for a hold but the Flyers completed the kill without a direct shot on Owen. The Clan stretched their lead again at 30:33 when Cade Neilson had all sorts of time and space in the slot to beat Owen low on the stick side. The Flyers then had their second powerplay when Heard was guilty of a trip in the neutral zone on Garet Hunt. The Clan kill was strong as the Flyers got nothing clean set up. In the 35th minute Owen made a shoulder save on Langan and the Fife keeper shut the same played down moments later as he tried to score five hole. Langan was penalised in the 36th minute for a slash and the best chance for Fife on the man advantage fell to Keaton Jameson who was denied by the arm of Aittokallio. The Clan keeper made one further big save as he got a piece of a Didrik Svendsen rip to maintain the home sides two goal lead.
Owen made an aggressive save in the 42nd minute as he got out to take the net away from Neumann who was looking for his hat trick goal. The Clan man went close again in the 47th minute after sustained pressure in the Flyers zone but he fired wide of the net. A minute later and the Clan survived a scramble around their net with Aittokallio eventually covering the puck up. In the 49th minute a give and go between Richard Jarusek and McKay saw the later denied as Owen went post to post. Andrew McLean tried his luck from just inside the blueline and the puck deflected just in front of the Clan goalie but Aittokallio made a fine reaction save. Porsberger was the binned in the 53rd minute for a trip. Masella made a great shot block on Neumann as the Flyers completed the kill and Porsberger went the other way and set up Winquist who saw his rising shot saved by the big Finnish netminder. In the 57th minute Owen held a snap shot from Heard and with 2:16 remaining on the clock the Flyers with an offensive zone face off pulled Owen for the extra skater. The visitors controlled the puck and Winquist, Porsberger and Ducharme all had shots that Aittokallio did well to save. With the clock ticking down Deven Sideroff broke up ice and with the goal at his mercy Masella was forced to slash his stick and the Clan played out the final 18 seconds on the power play to take the win.
