Fife Flyers 40th Anniversary Group make positive contribution to local charities

At the end of last season the Fife Flyers celebrated the 40th Anniversary of winning the
British Championship at Wembley Arena. The events put together by a small group of
volunteers included a live stage show at the Rothes Halls, a Sportsman’s Lunch at the
Strathearn Hotel as well as an exhibition held in the Kirkcaldy Galleries.

Reuniting most of those who were involved and rekindling memories for fans the
celebrations were unanimously hailed as a roaring success.

At the outset the volunteer group, in conjunction with the players, decided that all monies
made from the events would be for the benefit of charity and long term charity partner
Children’s Hospice Across Scotland (CHAS) as well as Kirkcaldy based Maggie’s Center
were decided upon.

Thanks to the generosity, as always, from the Fife Flyers fanbase who purchased tickets for
the events, bought jersey’s from the auction and snapped up all available raffle tickets on the
night of the show, leaving many simply making a donation the final total raised after all of the
costs were paid was £6,400.

Some of the players visited Rachel House in Kinross and Maggie’s Center at the Victoria
Hospital in recent weeks to hand over the respective share of the monies raised.

It was a humbling experience for all who attended as both charities took time to explain the
incredible work they do and the challenges they face.

The Flyers, as we all know, are rich in history and it is hoped that this type of event will be
the first of many where we can bring players and fans together from past eras with a goal of
celebrating the club’s sporting heritage as well as making a positive contribution to local
charities.

Once again Flyers fans, thank you!
