The Fife Flyers Ice Hockey Club are pleased to announce the signing of American forward Ethan Somoza.
Ethan arrives in The Kingdom from Budapest Jégkorong Akadémia HC fresh from winning the Hungarian National Championship during the 2024/25 season.
Prior to his season in the Erste Liga/Hungary, Ethan spent 3 seasons in the ECHL with the Greenville Swap Rabbits. In his time there he iced in 167 games recording 91 points (40 goals + 51 assists) and latterly donned the ‘A’ on his shirt on rotation.
Before joining the Swamp Rabbits, Ethan spent 5 seasons with Bemidji State University Beavers where his leadership qualities on and off the ice first earned him the ‘A’ then the ‘C’ which he wore for his final 2 seasons. In his time with the Beavers, Ethan tallied 78 points (37 goals + 41 assists) As well as a two-time captain, during his time there Ethan set the program record for all-time leader in games played with 171 career appearances.
On signing in The Kingdom Ethan said: “I’m incredibly excited to join the Fife Flyers for the upcoming season.
“It’s an honor to be part of such an historic organisation in the EIHL.
“I can’t wait to get to work, contribute to the team, and play in front of the passionate fans in Fife!”
On the addition of Ethan, Flyers President and GM Max Birbraer commented: “We welcome Ethan to the team.
“A true must-have player who is solid all around and will be at the center of many key situations.
“He’s another true professional and highly regarded by ex-teammates and coaches.
“Another piece of the puzzle falls in place for us.”
On securing Ethan for the upcoming season Head Coach Jamie Russell said: “Ethan has great hockey sense, is a tremendous penalty killer and a 20 goal scorer in the ECHL.
“He brings a lot of character to our group and is a leader.
“Ethan will be a top six forward that will impact all facets of the game.”
Ethan is the 14th player to sign up for the 2025/26 season and will wear #29.
