OWEN IS BACK TO PROTECT THE GATES TO THE KINGDOM

Fife Flyers Ice Hockey Club are delighted to confirm the return of Canadian netminder Shane Owen for the 2025/26 season.

First arriving in Kirkcaldy during the summer of 2016, Owen is no stranger to fans across Fife and the wider Elite Ice Hockey League (EIHL). Pulling off highlight reel saves night after night, Owen has been a consistent thorn in opponents’ side posting a save percentage of 90.84 with 17 shutouts throughout 7 seasons in the EIHL.

During the 2023/24 season, Owen made the Flyers’ history books recording the most appearances by a netminder in the club’s 87 year history. Last season he solidified this, recording the most Flyers appearances in all EIHL competitions by a non-homegrown player, a feat which currently sits at 349 games.

Commenting on his return, Owen said: “I couldn’t be more excited to lace up with the club again this season. Let’s make it a year to remember.”

After previously working with Owen at the ECHL’s Elmira Jackals, Head Coach Jamie Russell added: “Having coached Shane, I know we have a quality goalie and a great teammate.

“We will play with improved structure and allow Shane to have better numbers and face less shots. I’m very excited to work with Shane once again.”

In addition, Flyers President and GM Max Birbraer commented: “I know Shane very well as a player, he is a tremendous netminder. I look forward to finding out all about his outstanding qualities in terms of professionalism and leadership as that’s what most of the people I’ve spoken to have said about him.”.

Shane is the 1st player announced for the upcoming 2025/26 season and will once again wear #50.
