Weekend Preview – Week 23

WEEK 23 of the 2024/25 Elite Ice Hockey League season and the Flyers are in action early with a midweek trip to the Braehead Arena to meet the Glasgow Clan. On Saturday they return to West again for another meeting with the Clan before hosting the Dundee Stars at the Auld Barn on Sunday evening.

Recent Form Guide

The two teams said farewell to 2024 in their last encounter on Hogmanay. Following that win for Glasgow the Clan opened up 2025 on the Friday night in Manchester where they were defeated 4-1. They remained on the road the next night when they travelled to Nottingham and narrowly lost 2-1 to the Panthers. The following Friday the Cardiff Devils were visitors to Braehead arena and the Clan’s long unbeaten home run of 7 games was ended in an exciting odd goal in nine thriller in favour of the visitors. The Guildford Flames were next in the following night and in another nailbiter the Clan this time got the decision with a 5-4 win after overtime. It was a single game for the Clan the following weekend when they hosted the Sheffield Steelers on Friday night with the defending Champions making it 8 consecutive wins when they posted a 3-1 score line. The Clan were then in midweek action in the play in round of the Challenge Cup when they travelled to Nottingham and were eliminated for the competition by a 5-1 score line. With the weather postponing the Flyers trip to Braehead Arena it left the Clan with a single game the following weekend when they crashed 6-2 on Tayside against the Dundee Stars. Last weekend they had a home doubleheader with the Sheffield Steelers in town on Saturday night and after being two goals ahead lost the five straight to drop the points. The following night Manchester Storm were the visitors and they battled back from twice being behind top take two points in a 3-2 overtime decision.

Having won the opening game of the season between the teams the Flyers are trying to avoid a 7th consecutive defeat against the Clan which would be the best winning streak for the Glasgow side against the Flyers since the 2018/19 season.

The Stars returned home after their victory against the Flyers in their last meeting when they hosted the Nottingham Panthers who won 4-1. The following weekend was a one game affair as they made the long trek to Surrey to meet the Guildford Flames who blanked them 5-0. The weekend of the stormy weather the Clan were blown away 6-2 by the Stars at Dundee Ice Arena before a trip to play the Coventry Blaze returned a point from the Skydome after a 3-2 overtime defeat for the visitors.  Last weekend the Stars were on home ice for two games when they met the Guildford Flames on Saturday night and in a see saw game they eventually came out with both points after an odd goal in seven overtime win. On the Sunday the Giants moved across the Tay following their meeting with the Flyers and the league leaders were shocked as the Stars recorded their first win against the Giants in over a years with a 3-1 result.  Ahead of their meeting with the Flyers this weekend the Stars were due to host the Nottingham Panthers.
