Weekend Recap – Week 6

On Wednesday night……

Fife Flyers 0  Belfast Giants 7  –  Challenge Cup 

Flyers 21 shots on the Giants goal was their lowest game total so far this season.

The Flyers were shutout for the first time this season – the last time they were blanked at home was against the Nottingham Panthers on 28th March 2024.

In all EIHL competitions this was the 62nd time the Flyers have been shutout – 13th time by Belfast  with 6 of those being on home ice.

It was the Flyers 100th game in the Challenge Cup competition – they have won 37, drawn 3 and lost 60 of those games.

It was the first time the Flyers have given up more than 1 powerplay goal in a game this season.

The Flyers powerplay is now dry in the last five games during which time they have gone 0 for 14

Phélix Martineau played a new team high 27:40 time on ice

Lucas Chiodo’s team leading and season high six game points streak was ended.

On Friday night……

Cardiff Devils 5  Fife Flyers 2 – Elite League 

The Flyers broke their power play drought which had gone 0 for 16 over the previous 6 games.

The Flyers have had two 5 on 3 power play opportunities so far this season and are 100% with two goals scored.

The Flyers gave up their 2nd shorthanded goal of the season – their 104th in all EIHL competitions – it was the 10th shorty the Devils have scored against the Flyers who have given up the most, 18, to the Belfast Giants in all EIHL competitions.

Daniel Krenželok’s goal was the first by a Flyers defenceman against the Devils since Christian Hausinger 11 games ago in January 2023.
