Fife Flyers Ice Hockey Club are delighted to announce the signing of right shooting forward Johnny Curran.
Born in Niagara Falls, Ontario, the 29 year old returns to the Elite Ice Hockey League for his fifth season.
Playing Junior A hockey with the Aurora Tigers, Johnny topped their scoring during the 14/15 season. From there he joined the NCAA’s Niagara University Purple Eagles for the next four seasons. Johnny had his first taste of EIHL action when he turned professional in season 19/20, playing 56 games and scoring 29 points for the Coventry Blaze. During the Covid 20/21 season he played alongside former Flyers Jacob Benson and Sean Giles for the Knoxville Ice Bears in the Southern Professional Hockey League.
He returned to the Blaze for the following two seasons topping their scoring during the 22/23 season which also saw him selected for Team GB in their World Championship campaign. Last season he departed Slovakian side HK 32 Liptovsky Mikulas during pre-season when the Belfast Giants swooped for him following their series of early season injuries. He rejoined the Blaze in January 2024 and once again played for GB in their World Championship and Olympic Qualification endeavours. Johnny has played 250 EIHL games scoring 63 goals and registering 110 assists.
On securing the signing of Johnny Curran, Coach Tom Coolen said, “John Curran gives us a top 6 type forward who is a proven scorer in the EIHL. He has good size, combined with speed and a dangerous shot”.
On making the move to Flyers Johnny added, “I’m really excited to be joining the Flyers and calling the Auld Barn home. I’m looking forward to meeting everyone soon and building off of last season’s success.”
