Fife Flyers Ice Hockey Club are delighted to announce the return of Canadian netminder Shane Owen on a two-year deal.
Season 2023/24 saw Shane make 48 appearances as he became the all-time leader for appearances by a Flyers goalie. In total Shane has now played 307 games in Flyers colours in all EIHL competitions recording 8 assists and putting up 13 shutouts during that time.
Returning this season puts him on the brink of another milestone as two more appearances will see him pass James Isaacs who holds the record for most appearances for the Flyers in the EIHL by a non-homegrown player.
During his three different spells with the club, Shane has shown remarkable consistency and resilience having played 289 consecutive games before his injury last season. Despite this setback Shane posted his best Goals Against Average for a season last term and his second best Save % over his previous five seasons.
On the signing of Shane Owen, Coach Tom Coolen said “Shane has been a solid performer for the Club, for a number of years and last year was one of the best seasons of his career. We want to continue with that type of performance as we move forward. We are very happy to have Shane onboard.”
On his return Owen commented “I’m extremely grateful to extend my contract with the Flyers. The support from the fans and the entire organisation has been incredible, and I’m committed to giving my best to achieve greater success together. Let’s go Flyers!”
