What other sports did you play growing up?  Growing up I played baseball and golf.

Who has been the biggest influence on your career so far?  My parents, they provided me the opportunity to excel and play at a high level growing up. I am very thankful for that.

Who is the best player you have played with?  Best player would have to be Sam Reinhart. (Kootenay Ice, WHL)

Who is the best player you have played against? Brayden point (Moose Jaw Warriors, WHL)

What is the most memorable game you have played in?  My most memorable game would be the 2015 team WHL and Russia series. We played the game in Kamloops which was special (my junior team town)

What is your favourite/least favourite rink to play in? Favourite would be our rink in Kirkcaldy because I love playing at home. Don’t really have a least.

If you could make one rule change in hockey, what would it be and why? I think it would be no offsides. I would have had way more break a ways that way.

Which hockey team do you cheer for/which one do you root against? I cheer for the Colorado Avalanche and root against Toronto Maple Leafs.

Most admired hockey player and why? Gordie Howe, he played his final NHL game at 52 years old and he’s a good Saskatchewan man. Mr. Hockey how can’t you admire that. Also, my grandfather Jim Shirley played hockey and baseball with Gordie.

What would be your best piece of advice for youngsters starting in hockey? Have fun every single day and never take anything for granted. It’s a great game so enjoy every time you step on the ice.

What do you consider to be the strongest part of your game and where are you trying to improve? The strongest part of my game is skating and protecting the puck. I always want to improve on the little things like shooting and finding ways to score in tight around the net.

Pre-game routine? Nap, eat my pregame meal, but nothing to crazy

Pre-game meal? Usually chicken and rice/pasta but I’m not too picky

Any gameday superstitions? I don’t really have superstitions; I think routine is important but sometimes you can get lots with too many superstitions.

Favourite other sport(s) to play? I would say golf and I also like to play tennis

Favourite other sport(s) to watch? Golf (the masters) and the CFL

Favourite athlete (non hockey)? Tiger Woods

Favourite sports team (non hockey)? Toronto Blue Jays

Which do you prefer books or movies? I prefer movies but have gotten into reading books.

Favourite TV show(s)? Breaking Bad

If you could only eat one meal for the rest of your life, what would it be? Pizza, there’s a lot of variety with pizza.

Favourite beverage (non alcoholic/alcoholic)? Root beer and Kokanee

If you could share a meal with any 4 individuals, living or dead, who would they be? – Gordie Howe, Tiger Woods, JK Rowling, and Tommy Lee.

Favourite singer/music/band? Favourite singer right now is Zach Bryan. Favourite band is probably The Killers.

What is your favourite vacation destination? Favourite vacation spot I’ve been would be Hawaii.

What was your favourite and least favourite subject in school? Favourite subject growing up was Gym, least favourite was any kind of Science. Hey Bill Nye… Science does not rule.

What is your go to Karaoke song? Whisky in the Jar – Metallica

If you could join any past or current music group which would it be and in what capacity? (guitar/vocals/drummer etc) I love to sing, and I think I’m pretty good but have been told otherwise over the years. Metallica or Green Day would be bands I would love to hit the road with.

Have you ever had a nickname? What is it?  Nickname is Shirls or Shirs, pretty self-explanatory ones as most nicknames are!

If you were a super-hero, what powers would you have? I would want to be able to teleport. Go any place in the world in the nick of time

What three items would you take with you on a desert island? An axe, rope, and a big lighter/matches

How many languages do you speak? ? English… and only English

If not a hockey player what occupation would you have? . I think a marketing position with any sports team would be a cool job.
