Ric Jackman in Challenge Cup action

The FiFab Fife Flyers took on Dundee Stars for the first time this season at Fife Ice Arena as the sides met in Challenge Cup action.

Flyers looked to be the more threatening side in the opening minutes of the game and created a number of chances from the first play of the game, however they were unable to score on the Dundee Stars goalie Joe Fallon.

Despite the early pressure from Fife it was Dundee who opened the scoring when Scott Brannon capitalised on a mix up in the Flyers defence to make it 1-0 at 8:54.

Matt White doubled Dundee's lead a few minutes later when he fired the puck beyond Shane Owen to make it 2-0.

Justin Fox pulled a goal back for Fife in the final minutes of the opening period with a well taken goal at 18:21 to make it a 1 goal game going into the 1st period break.

Flyers looked to take advantage in the opening minute of the 2nd period as they found themselves with a 5 on 3 powerplay for the opening 1 minute 12 seconds but were unable to capitalise on the 2 man advantage.

Flyers did tie up the game when Chase Schaber fired the puck on Joe Fallon only to see his shot rebound of the Dundee netminder, hit Schaber and go in over the Stars netminder and into the net.

Dundee restored their 1 goal lead at 32:02 when Brett Switzer struck for Dundee's 3rd goal to make it 3-2 to Dundee.

A disappointing 3rd period saw Dundee Stars score 3 goals to Flyers 1 to wrap up a 6-3 win and hand Flyers their first home defeat of the 2016/17 campaign.
