Fife Flyers vs Edinburgh Capitals post game summary

Fife Flyers, sponsored by Arnold Clark Mercedes-Benz, welcomed back their oldest rivals to the Fife Ice Arena on Saturday as they hosted the Edinburgh Capitals in the now familiar Boxing Day clash between the two sides.

Fife Flyers welcomed back Charlie Mosey to the line up after he had missed the two previous fixtures against Dundee Stars and Guildford Flames. Edinburgh travelled to Fife Ice Arena for the first time since head coach Dmitri Khristich was replaced by Jock Hay and Mike D'Orazio.

It didn't take Flyers long to get on the scoreboard as Shayne Stockton took advantage on Flyers first powerplay of the evening at 4:51 when he fired the puck beyond Pavel Shegalo in the Edinburgh net.

Less than 2 minutes later Chase Schaber doubled Flyers lead when he picked up a loose puck and was left with an easy tapy in to make it 2-0.

Liam Heelis made it 3-0 when he stole the puck from Capitals defenceman Mike D'Orazio and fired the puck beyond Shegalo at 8:14, prompting the Edinburgh to replace Shegalo with young back-up goalie Jordan McLaughlin.

Flyers forward Danick Gauthier had two good opportunities in the opening minutes of the 2nd period, once hitting Jordan McLaughlin's post before McLaughlin made a pad save to deny Gauthier.

Shayne Stockton did beat McLaughlin moments later to make it 4-0 at 22:12 for his second goal of the night, before completing his hattrick a minute later at 23:22 to make it 5-0.

Shortly after their 5th goal Todd Dutiaume replaced Andy Iles in Flyers net with back-up netminder Jordan Marr.

At 28:22 Danick Gauthier got his opening goal of the game to make it 6-0 before Edinburgh scored their only goal of the game on the powerplay at 32:28 thanks to Dylan Anderson.

Peter LeBlanc responded immediatly to make it 7-1 at 33:27 before Danick Gauthier got his 2nd goal at 35:40 making it 8-1 heading into the final period.

Two further goals in the final period saw Flyers wrap up their biggest win in the Elite Ice Hockey League as Chase Schaber got goal number 9 of the night at 55:30 before Ian Young wrapped up the scoring to make it 10-1 a 58:07 on the powerplay.
