 Fife Flyers vs MK Lightning post game summary

Fife Flyers, sponsored by Arnold Clark Mercedes-Benz, welcomed back the MK Lightning on Sunday evening to Fife Ice Arena for the second time this season having previously recored a 3-2 victory against Pete Russell's side.

Flyers went into Sunday's game without youngsters Reece Cochrane and GB under 20's Chad Smith.

Flyers got themselves on the scoresheet at 5:59 after a fantastic as Chase Schaber got the opening goal of the game, despite protests from some the Lightning players referee Toby Craig said the goal stood.

Flyers had a few other good opportunities in the opening period but were unable to find another way beyond Miika Wiikman in the MK net. As it looked as though Flyers would take a 1-0 lead into the second period, Guillaume Doucet pounced on a loose puck at the Flyers net to tie the game at 19:59.

A frantic opening to second period saw Flyers score 3 times in the space of 5 minutes. Defenceman Ričards Birziņš restored Flyers lead on the powerplay at 22:28 with a one timed shot.

At 26:40 Peter LeBlanc made it 3-1 before James Isaacs made it 4-1 to Fife when he got a tip on a Russ Moyer's shot from the point at 27:21.

Peter LeBlanc got his second goal of the game at 33:12 with another powerplay goal to make it 5-1.

Former Flyers player Matt Nickerson thought he had been ejected from the game after a series of cross checks on Flyers forward Liam Heelis, however referee Toby Craig called him back from the dressing room as he sat for 2 + 2 minutes for cross checking, taking the Flyers into the final period leading 5-1.
