Fife Flyers vs Belfast Giants game preview

This Saturday the Fife Flyers, sponsored by Arnold Clark Mercedes-Benz, host the Belfast Giants at Fife Ice Arena in their only game of the weekend.

The Giants travel to Kirkcaldy with a new head coach in charge following Derrick Walser left during the summer with their former captain Adam Keefe taking over the reigns.

Despite having no coaching experience,Keefe was a popular choice amongst the Giants fans having been with the club since 2011/12 and holding the ‘C’ since 2012/13. Derrick Walser retired from playing at the end of last season and took up a coaching job in the OHL with Peterborough, Keefe has done a strong job in recruiting new players, signing some names with impressive CV’s.

Belfast have, on paper anyway, a strong balanced Defence which is led by the returning former NHL’er Jim Vandermeer (currently injured), Ryan Martinelli and new signing Cole Jarrett. Jarrett joined the the Giants from Tohoku in the highly rated Asian League and wears an ‘A’ this season and has a lot of European Elite League experience. He has seen time in Liiga, DEL, EBEL as well as a brief stint in the NHL with the Islanders.

Keefe, perhaps more so than those before has added some youthful exuberance to the Belfast's forward line-up. 23-year-old Sébastien Sylvestre has started particularly well with 12 goals, 15 assists in 17 games over all competitions. The Giants #10 though has also racked up 68 minutes in the penalty box
