Fife Flyers vs Cardiff Devils game summary

Fife Flyers, sponsored by Arnold Clark Mercedes-Benz, looked to wrap up their home double header this weekend with 2 wins following their Saturday night win over defending play-off champions the Sheffield Steelers, as they hosted the defending league champions the Cardiff Devils on Sunday at Fife Ice Arena.

The Cardiff Devils made the long journey north to Kirkcaldy for the first time this season following their 7-2 Saturday evening win over the Coventry Blaze.

It was the Cardiff who got on the scoreboard first when they took an early lead thanks to defenceman Gleason Fournier shot which went in off Andy Iles post.

Despite Cardiff's early goal, Flyers looked to respond quickly and had some good opportunities, however it wasn't until just over halfway through the first period when Carlo Finucci picked up the puck and beat Ben Bowns in the Cardiff net to tie the game up.

As the period looked to be ending in a 1-1 draw, Flyers took the lead when James Isaacs' found Chase Schaber at the back post who fired the puck into the Cardiff net to make it 2-1 at 18:59.

Second period action was only 45 seconds old when Cardiff tied up the game thanks to Joey Martin who made it 2-2 with a goal from close range. Less than 2 minutes later Danick Gauthier restored the Flyers lead after the pucked up a lose puck infront of the Cardiff net to make it 3-2.

Flyers were unable to hold on to their lead going into the dressing room when Paul Crowder converted on the powerplay for Cardiff at 36:45, sending the teams into the dressing room tied at 3-3 at the end of the second period.

A disappointing 3rd period saw Devils take the lead early on on the powerplay at 46:15 when Layne Ulmer beat Andy Iles. Paul Crowder sealed the win for the Devils with an empty net goal timed at 58:44.
