Fife Flyers team bench

Fife Flyers, sponsored by Arnold Clark Mercedes-Benz, continued their preparation for the 2017/18 Elite Ice Hockey League season as they welcomed Danish Metal Ligaen side Herlev Eagles on Saturday evening to Fife Ice Arena.

Fife were without the injured Shayne Stockton, who is currently undergoing treatment on an upper body injury, however Carlo Finucci returned to the line up.

In the opening period it was the Danish side that had the better of the scoring opportunities as they outshot Flyers 15 to 7 in the first 20 minutes.

Despite the Eagles having the most shots on net it was Flyers who opened the scoring after a well worked move that saw Peter LeBlanc and Ian Young combine to set up the returning Carlo Finucci to put Fife 1-0 up at 7:13.

Herlev got themselves back in the game when Brian Birkhoff picked up a rebound in front of Andy Iles to make it a 1-1 game at 14:24.

Flyers rode their luck somewhat in the middle period as they found themselves on the penalty kill on 3 occasisions, but despite playing 6 minutes shorthanded it was Flyers who re-took the lead when Ian Young fired the puck through traffic beyond Evan Mosher in the Eagles net at 32:15.

Flyers closed the game out in the final period and secured the victory after defenceman Ian Young scored his second goal of the night with a backhand shot to beat Evan Mosher at 57:41.
