Chase Schaber scores vs EC Kassel Huskies

The Fife Flyers, sponsored by Arnold Clark Mercedes-Benz, returned to the ice for the first time this season as they hosted German DEL2 side EC Kassel Huskies at Fife Ice Arena in the first of 6 pre-season games.

It was Flyers who hit the ice hard in the opening period as they looked to get the go ahead goal early on in the game. Flyers applied most of the pressure on the Huskies net in the opening minutes of the game but were unable to capitalise on their chances.

The first penalty of the game came at 4:10 when Pavel Halas called a 2 minute hooking penalty on Flyers' forward Liam Heelis.

The opening goal came in the dying seconds of the first period when the Huskies capitalised on a Danick Gauthier penalty when Mark Little put the Huskies 1-0 up at 19:54.

The Huskies doubled their lead early in the 2nd period when John Rogl scored the 2nd goal of the game at 20:24.

The next action didn't come until late in the period when Flyers first goal of the new season was scored by a familiar face when Liam Heelis and Danick Gauthier slick passing moves set up Chase Schaber to make it a one goal game at 38:23.

Head Coach Todd Dutiaume made a netminder change for the 3rd period with Jordan Marr going between the Flyers pipes.

Shayne Stockton tied the game up in style with a shot from just inside the Huskies zone which saw the puck ping of the post and in to the net.

Flyers dominated the 3rd period but the Huskies took the lead again when Adriano Carciola gave the visitors a 3-2 lead at 55:30.

With 57:52 played Flyers called a 30 second time-out and pulled their netminder for the extra skater, and just over a minute later defenceman Ian Young tied the game up at 58:58 forcing the game into overtime.

With 5 minutes sudden death 3 on 3 overtime underway it didn't take Fife long to seal the win as Peter LeBlanc scored his first goal for the team at 60:35 to give Fife a 4-3 victory.
