On Monday Fife Flyers assistant coach Jeff Hutchins was announced as the new Team GB under 18's head coach by Ice Hockey UK. Following the announcement Jeff took time out to discuss his new role.

Hutchins, 39, appeared nine times for GB as a player and was part of the squad that won the silver medal in the World Championship Division 1 Group B in 2011.

The former AHL’er appeared for Coventry, Belfast, Newcastle, Bracknell, Edinburgh, Sheffield and Edinburgh.

His first coaching role, a player-coach, in the UK was with Dundee Stars where he won the Gardiner Conference in 2013-14.

After a stint in China, he is now assistant coach and director of player development at Fife Flyers.

Speaking about the interview process Hutchins said "The GB board were holding interviews for all the GB positions. I travelled down to Manchester a couple weeks ago and went through the interview process.

"I received a call the other day from Tony (Hand) saying that him and the board would like offer me the role of Head Coach role for the 18's."

Hutchins takes over the role from Martin Grubb. Grubb had held the position for 5 years whilst also being head coach for the Great Britain under 20's last season.

"I don't know Martin personally however I am friends with Martin Cingel and he speaks highly of him. His resume speaks for itself, he has been involved in the national program for many years and has had multiple successes.

"My goal for the coming year is to help Tony and the board implement the culture changes they have set out. We want players that have drive and ambition to play for the senior team.

"My coaching staff and I are responsible for shaping and preparing these young players to move toward the one day playing for the senior team."
