Shane Owen in action versus Edinburgh Capitals

The FiFab Fife Flyers welcomed Edinburgh Capitals to Fife Ice Arena for their final home ice encounter in the 2016/17 Elite Ice Hockey League regular season.

It was the home side who dominated the majority of the opening period and Flyers had 2 early opportunities to take the lead after Sebastien Thinel and Carlo Finucci both came close only to be denied by the Capitals defence.

Flyers found themselves on the penalty kill at 3:50 when Mathew Sisca was given a 2 minute slashing minor, Flyers successfully killed the penalty. Soon after returning from the penalty box Mathew Sisca put Flyers 1-0 up when he fired the puck beyond Travis Fullerton at 7:51.

With the opening period coming to a close, Edinburgh Capitals tied the game up when Jared Staal found the net at 17:54.

Flyers restored their 1 goal lead early in the 2nd period when Sebastien Thinel broke out the Fife zone, Thinel's drop pass found Ryan Dingle who beat Travis Fullerton to make it 2-1 at 23:02.

Despite taking the lead early lead in the 2nd period, it was Edinburgh who looked the more dangerous of the 2 sides in the middle period. Edinburgh finally made their pressure count when Yevgeni Fyodorov finally found a way passed Shane Owen when he tied the game up at 35:09.

Matt Tipoff then gave the Capitals the lead when he scored Edinburgh's 3rd goal of the game at 36:02.

An early 4th goal for in the final period from Edinburgh Capitals saw the Flyers chances all but end after Jacob Johnston made it 4-2 at 40:53.

Russ Moyer gave Flyers a chance to get back in the game when he made it 4-3 at 54:55, but Taylor MacDougall's empty net goal at 59:59 sealed the win for Edinburgh.
