Justin Fox celebrates Fife's opening goal vs Braehead Clan

The FiFab Fife Flyers were looking to start 2017 with a bang as they hosted Gardiner Conference rivals Braehead Clan at Fife Ice Arena as both teams aimed to start the new year with a win.

First period action saw an explosive start as both teams looked to get on the scoreboard early. Brendan Brooks had the first chance after Kyle Haines broke up a Clan attack, but Zajkowski was on hand to deny the former Braehead forward. Braehead had a good chance when defenceman Lee Baldwin found himself in space at the Fife back post but fired his shot high.

Just before the halfway mark Josh Scoon got the crowd energised with a hit on Braehead captain Matt Keith, which saw Clan's Jay Rosehill looking to get in on some action.

Braehead got the go ahead goal when Mike Hammond fired the puck passed Shane Owen at 12:46.

Shortly after Flyers thought they had tied the game when Ric Jackman looked to have squeezed the puck into the Clan net. The goal judge behind the Fife goal signalled for a goal but referee Toby Craig disagreed and Flyers remained scoreless, but only for a short time. Justin Fox slammed the puck into the Braehead net after a great piece of work by Brendan Brooks at 19:18.

Into the 2nd period and it was once again forward Josh Scoon who got the crowd on their feet once more with another solid hit early in the period.

Braehead got themselves back in the lead when a pass from Matt Beca hit off Kyle Haines skate in front of the Fife net and found its way beyond Shane Owen in the Fife net. Th score remained the same going into the 3rd period.

A disappointing final period saw Braehead wrap up the win when Matt Keith scored Braehead's 3rd goal early in the period at 45:31 before a Scott Pitt empty net goal sealed a 4-1 victory for Braehead.
