Brendan Brooks leads another Fife attack vs Edinburgh

The FiFab Fife Flyers were looking to end a run of 7 straight conference defeats as they hosted Edinburgh Capitals on Boxing Day at Fife Ice Arena.

It was Flyers who looked to apply the early pressure in the opening period as they had the better of the early chances. Just before the halfway mark Philippe Paquet opened the scoring after a Ryan Dingle pass inside the Capitals zone to make it 1-0 at 8:59.

A Justin Fox powerplay goal at 12:53 doubled Flyers lead before Carlo Finucci made it 3-0 at 13:10.

Flyers 3-0 lead was short lived as Edinburgh got their opening goal of the game when Pavel Vorobyev slid the puck passed Shane Owen in the Fife net to close the period at a score of 3-1 in favour of Fife.

Flyers restored their 3 goal lead early in the 2nd period when a Ryan Dingle shot from the point deflected in the net beyond Travis Fullerton at 24:23 to put Fife 4-1 up.

Brendan Brooks made it 5-1 at 46:35 before Pavel Vorobyev got his 2nd goal of the game at 49:57 to bring the scored back to 5-2 in favour of Fife.

A series of fine saves from Shane Owen in the 2nd period ensured that Flyers held on to the 5-2 lead going into the final period.

Into the 3rd period and Flyers found themselves with the chance to make it 6 when Ryan Dingle was pulled down and referee Toby Craig awarded a penalty shot which Ryan Dingle converted at 43:53 to make it 6-2.

Dingle competed his hat trick at 46:45 he fired the puck beyond Travis Fullerton on the powerplay. Brendan Brooks made it 8-2 on the powerplay after Ric Jackman's original shot had been blocked.

After Fife's 8th goal Travis Fullerton headed to Capitals bench at 46:39 to be replaced briefly by Jordan McLaughlin, Fullerton returned to the ice at 50:11.

Justin Fox made it 9-2 with a fantastic effort at 53:12. Fife Flyers gave Craig Douglas some ice time as he came on for Shane Owen at 54:06
