Flyers fall at home to Manchester Storm

The FiFab Fife Flyers welcomed Gardiner Conference rivals the Manchester Storm on Saturday night to Fife Ice Arena as Flyers looked for their 6th home win in 7 games.

In the opening period Flyers found themselves on an early penalty kill again, this time after 52 seconds when Justin Fox was assessed a 2 minute penalty for elbowing. Fox wasn't pleased with the call as he spoke to referee Paval Halas all the way to the penalty box.

On the resulting powerplay Manchester Storm scored the opening goal of the period as Matt Bissonnette found Cody Cartier coming in unmarked at the Fife back post and fired Manchester into a 1-0 lead at 2:06.

Flyers looked to tie the game but were unable to get a goal despite good opportunities for Justin Fox and Brendan Brooks.

As the opening period progressed things started to heat up on the ice and Sebastien Thinel found himself laying on the ice in the Storm crease after having been checked by a Storm defenceman onto netminder Mike Clemente.

In the 2nd period Flyers looked to put the pressure on Manchester as they tried to tie the game. Despite 4 powerplay opportunities Flyers were unable to find a way passed Mike Clemente in the Manchester net.

Flyers players started to become increasingly frustrated as they searched for their opening goal and when Ric Jackman had a great opportunity to tie the game as the puck rebound off Clemente into his path there was a sense that it wasn't meant to be as he saw the puck bounce over his stick.

A disappointing 3rd period saw Flyers unable to grab a goal and Manchester sealed off the victory when Darian Dziurzynski completed the scoring at 59:39 with an empty net goal.
